NOVEMBER 2001
Eid StampOn September 1, 2001, the United States Postal Services expanded its Holiday Celebrations Series by issuing a stamp honoring the Muslim holiday Eid.

The Eid stamp commemorates the two most important festivals in the Islamic calendar: Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. It's an absolutely beautiful stamp. I hope you're able to get some before they run out!

The September/October edition of Saudi Aramco World magazine tells the story of how the Eid stamp came to be — starting as the idea of a fifth grade stamp collector. Saudi Aramco World is distributed without charge to a limited number of interested readers. To request a copy of this issue or to subscribe, write to:

MAY 2001
This month's site update comes a little late due to the amount of time spent preparing to launch a new website. The new site, which will be launched in June, is devoted to the art, poetry and music of Saudi Arabia. I'd like to sincerely thank my "cutest cousin" (you know who you are!) for inspiring this project, and for working with me on it from halfway around the world.

Featured Track: 'Al Berwaz' by Mohammed AbduThe featured track for May is "Al Berwaz" by Mohammed Abdu. In appreciation for your patience, we've added a second, bonus track: "Inti Methel Manti" by Rashed Al-Majid — a song sent to me by another very dear cousin in Arizona. Take a listen, then buy the cds! If you've missed previous months' tracks, just visit our music archive.

APRIL 2001
The most frequent question received on this site is, "What kind of name is Christina Al-Sudairy?" Well, it's the result of having an American mother and a Saudi father. Being born and raised here in California, this site started as an effort to learn more about Saudi culture, and then wanting to share what I'd found.

If you'd like to find out more about your own background, a great place to start is Ancestry.com. Through their databases, you can access birth and death info, locate relatives in other countries, and much more. I highly recommend this resource.

Featured Track: 'Bent AlNoor' by Mohammed AbduApril's featured track is a favorite of my young friend Majed's. He recommends "Bent AlNoor" by Mohammed Abdu. Take a listen — then buy the cd! If you've missed previous months' tracks, visit our growing music archive.

MARCH 2001
We hope you will be happy with this months site update, including many new recipes. If you've submitted a recipe in the last six weeks or so, we appreciate your patience. Due to the volume, it's taking longer than anticipated to get them all posted. Expect recipes to be added daily until we're all caught up!

'Betgheeb Betrooh' by Elissa (with Ragheb Alameh)This months featured track is "Betgheeb Betrooh" by Elissa (with Ragheb Alameh). Take a listen — then buy the cd! If you've missed previous months' tracks, don't despair. Just visit our archive.

JANUARY 2001
We are making efforts to expand our Arabic language section. This month, we're introducing a brand new page, Islamic Words & Phrases. Expect this page to grow daily. We also hope to be adding sound clips to all of our Arabic pages in the very near future!

Featured Track: 'Aisheen' by Mustafa AmarJanuary's featured track is a request: "Aisheen" by Mustafa Amar. Take a listen and if you like it — buy the cd! If you've missed previous months' tracks, just visit our archive.

And, as always, please don't forget to take a minute to do something for someone less fortunate. With a few clicks of your mouse, the sponsors of the Hunger Site, Hits Against Hunger, ClickForACause and Causeanaffect.org will donate food to a person in need. It's free, it's easy, so there's absolutely no excuse not to do it!
